Welcome to Shaded Sky Siberians
Shaded Sky Siberians is a home-based cattery located in Vancouver, Washington. We specialize in breeding traditional- colored Siberian Forest Cats and are dedicated to producing the highest quality cats. Our selection process for breeding cats entails careful research. We also foster close relationships with the breeders from whom we adopt so that we can keep up to date with the health and prosperity of parents and siblings. The key components we look for when selecting our kings and queens are health, genetic diversity, temperament, and beauty. Our Siberian cats, kittens, and cattery are registered with TICA and CFA.
Health and Screening
We test all of our breeding cats for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV). We also utilize genetic testing using the Optimal Selection Feline Genetic Breeding Analysis to screen for several genetic abnormalities. We research the pedigrees of our breeding cats to ensure that our kings and queens are as genetically diverse as possible. Although Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) in pedigrees cannot be completely accounted for, we are committed to responsible breeding practices to reduce the risk of HCM in all of our lines. Socialization
Socialization is a key component to any breeding program. We handle our kittens daily, beginning on the day they are born. Our cats live in the home with us and are used to living with other cats, a toddler, a Bernese Mountain Dog, and a revolving door of adults. We play with them frequently and introduce them to various types of toys, cat furniture, and scratchers. This gives them healthy ways to expend all of that kitten energy and teaches them about appropriate places to scratch and climb. We gently touch and handle their paws daily and trim their claws weekly to help get them used to the process. We also introduce them to a comb and brush very early to get them accustomed to gentle grooming and to prevent the development of a fear of these items.
